Stephen B. W. Roeder, Ph.D. Dean, Administration

Stephen Roeder is the dean of San Diego State University’s Imperial Valley Campus (Calexico and Brawley). He was raised on a farm in the state of Vermont. He majored in chemistry at Dartmouth College and then received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. After a year of postdoctoral research at Bell Telephone Laboratories, he spent two years at the University of Oregon as a researcher and lecturer. He has been at San Diego State University for 36 years as Professor of Physics and Professor of Chemistry. He served for 6 years as chair of the Physics Department and 9 years as chair of the Chemistry Department as well as two years as Interim Dean of the College of Sciences at SDSU. He also is the former director of the Master of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences program and Coordinator of the Off Campus Centers for SDSU. He has served for many years on the SDSU Senate, the Senate Executive Committee, the University Copyrights and Patents Committee and many other departmental and university committees.

Roger Dunn, Ph.D. Associate Dean, Administration

 

Roger Dunn received his B.A. in psychology from SDSU and an M.A and Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Dunn first taught as a part-time lecturer on the SDSU-IV Campus in 1980 while in graduate school. He has been a full-time member of the faculty since 1983. For many years, his research focused on the study of associative learning in a variety of species including snails, pigeons, dolphins, monkeys, and humans.  His more recent work investigates the associative underpinnings of categories in human knowledge.  Dr. Dunn was Chair of the Arts & Sciences Division for several years and has represented the IV Campus on several committees as well as the University Senate.

 

Irma Martinez, M.A. Director of Business and Financial Services

Irma Martinez supervises the Business Office at the IV Campus. This office oversees all financial transactions for students and the campus. Irma also serves as the Personnel Officer and processes all staff and faculty contracts, and disseminates benefits and other information to faculty and staff. The Business Office also serves as the purchasing department for the IV Campus.

Irma received her Masters degree in Management from the University of Redlands in 1998.

 

Miguel Rahiotis, M.S. Assistant Dean for Student Affairs

Mr. Rahiotis is the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.  He is responsible for all services related to students including recruitment, advising, admissions, registrar services and financial aid.  A native of Calexico, he has accomplished many of his educational goals by getting a degree in psychology and a masters degree in Counseling from San Diego State University.  Professionally, he has enjoyed his twenty three year tenure at this institution, where he has served as financial aid director and as Assistant Dean since 2003.  Mr. Rahiotis is committed to increase access to higher educational opportunities for all Imperial County residents.  He has been a key contributor to Imperial Valley’s College-Going Initiative, collaborating with the University of California Office of the President, Imperial Valley College and the Imperial County Office of Education to promote greater understanding that education should be a life-long pursuit.

 

John Renison, M.A. Development Director

John R. Renison has been Director of Advancement since 1994. His duties also include fundraising, community relations and government affairs. He is a member of the Calexico City Council, currently serving as Mayor for the period July 2007 until July 2008. He is a lifelong resident of the Imperial Valley. He has extensive ties in both Mexicali and Imperial Valley. He assists the Dean in reaching out to the community to receive community input for both the Calexico and Brawley campus.

He received his B.A. from the University of San Diego in 1970 with a double Spanish/History major. He received his Master's in Public Administration from  SDSU-Imperial Valley Campus in 1997.
